Poti is Georgia's principal Black Sea port and the western end of the trade corridor that moves goods between Europe, the Caucasus and Central Asia — a city of roughly 41,000 in Samegrelo built entirely around the harbour, the free industrial zone beside it and the freight forwarding, customs brokerage and logistics businesses that cluster around both. The customers here are procurement and supply chain departments in other countries, evaluating whether a Georgian forwarder or terminal operator can be trusted with cargo worth considerably more than the service fee. That evaluation is almost entirely a documentation exercise conducted online, and Poti's operators are collectively terrible at it: capability, licensing, insurance, handling capacity and route experience are the things a shipper needs to see, and they are the things almost no Poti website provides. In a corridor competing directly with routes through Turkey, Russia and Iran, being hard to verify is a commercial disadvantage that has nothing to do with the quality of the port.
